TMJ is an abbreviation for the "temporomandibular joint," the joint where the jaw attaches to the rest of the skull. TMJ has also come to refer to a range of problems that can occur with this joint, resulting in such things as popping of the joint, difficulty opening the mouth, and radiating pain.
